About the Division of Student Affairs The Division of Student Affairs at Rice University is comprised of 14 departments and fosters a vibrant community that challenges students to develop:
- An awareness of cultural, emotional, intellectual, physical, social, and spiritual needs in balance with academic pursuits.
- A sense of personal responsibility and ethical standards.
- The skills necessary to achieve their potential in all endeavors.
Students acquire these skills and perspectives through more than 200 registered student organizations, which reflect the diverse interests of the student body.
Only a small number receive annual budgets through blanket tax fees. Student groups can apply for funds through internal grants, but these are extremely limited. In the 2003-04 academic year, clubs and organization requested nearly $269,000 to bring their ideas into reality, but the university's grants could fund only one-third of this amount.
