Give Now

It’s the biggest fundraising effort of the year.

Raise your voice for Rice!

Give Now

6,000 alumni will earn over $600,000 for Rice students and faculty. Will you step up for your alma mater?

Starting May 15 and ending June 30, several alumni challengers are offering up over $600,000 in challenge gifts to secure 6,000 alumni donors to Rice during the “Your Voice, One Rice” Giving Challenge. A single voice can make an impact on campus — so imagine what the alumni community can achieve when you all join together!

#YOURVOICEONERICE

How it Works

This year’s new-look challenge features several participation milestones over the course of six weeks (May 15–June 30). Gifts of any size from Rice undergraduate and graduate alumni (including the Class of 2018) will count toward the overall donor goal — and this is a big opportunity for those alumni who have not made a gift this fiscal year to maximize your gift. As the Rice alumni community reaches each donor milestone your gift will have even more power to support the university and its students. See details below.

How To Give

Make a gift of any size, to any area at Rice, online from May 15–June 30! You may also donate by phone at 713-348-4991.

Milestone 3 Challenger: Jim Whitehurst ’89

“One of the reasons I went to Rice was because of the financial support I received. For Rice to provide even more financial assistance, we must be willing to contribute and support the next generation. And let’s be honest, doesn’t everyone from Rice love a good challenge!?”

Milestone 4 Challenger: Ken Cowin ’77

“Rice students have the freedom to pursue areas of study that they care about and that match their strengths, even if that means changing course on their journey of discovery. Most importantly, Rice supports them through these twists and turns, because they care about students as individuals.”

Your Voice In One Word

Share on social media why you raise your voice and include a photo describing “Your Rice” in one word. See the photo of Baker College President Eliza Martin ’19 (below) as an example. Be sure to include #YourVoiceOneRice, too!

Challenge Your Friends and Fellow Classmates

You can be a challenger, too, and it’s really easy! Simply set a goal and tag your friends to meet the goal. For example:

“I challenge @TomSmith and @SamSneed to give $100 each to the @RiceAnnualFund’s #YourVoiceOneRice challenge. If you do, I will donate $200 to @RiceUniversity”

“I just donated $500 to @BusinessRice. Now, I’m challenging @Tim and @Connie to make their gifts to the #YourVoiceOneRice challenge — any amount, large or small!”

“If @Jim and @SamanthaP donate to @RiceAthletics, I will match their gifts up to $500.”

Please also tag @RiceAnnualFund, @RiceAthletics and/or @BusinessRice in your posts so that we can join in on the fun and even promote these on our pages.

Questions? We’ve Got Answers!
Why are there multiple challengers this year?

Our alumni challengers are dedicated to the continued success of the university and Rice students, faculty and staff. To promote alumni giving and the impact it has on the university, they have each agreed to contribute toward an impressive challenge total that inspires our alumni to make the significant decision to give back to Rice.

How will my participation make an impact?

In addition to providing essential support for the university, your gift will:

  • Influence Rice’s overall alumni participation rate, which factors into rankings by publications such as U.S. News and World Report. Rice currently stands at No. 14 in U.S. News and World Report’s ranking of national universities.
  • Improve the university's ability to secure grants from corporations and other organizations, which take national rankings into account.
  • Reflect your confidence in the value of a Rice education and further enhance that value for current undergraduate and graduate students.
Once I make my gift during the challenge, how can I stay updated — and how can I help?

Follow the Rice Annual Fund on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram  to get progress reports over the next six weeks to share with your Owl network. Tell them why you support Rice and encourage them to “raise their voice,” too! Your staff liaison will also help keep you informed about progress.

I made a gift, but I didn’t see the progress bar move. Did my gift count?

Rest assured, your support has been counted! We are constantly double-checking our gift reports and will provide updates to the progress bar nearly every day. You may also call 713-348-4991 with any questions.

Do my spouse and I need to make separate gifts to be counted in the challenge?

Nope! If you and your spouse are both alumni (undergraduate or graduate), one gift will automatically count as two participants.

I’ve already committed to a multi-year pledge — can my gift count toward the challenge?

Yes! Make this year’s payment toward your multi-year pledge between May 15 and June 30 to be counted as one of the 6,000 alumni donors.

My employer matches my gifts to Rice. How is their matching gift counted during the challenge?

Each company that participates in gift-matching has different requirements for paperwork. All that you need to do is make your gift between May 15 and June 30, then follow your company’s usual requirements for processing the matching gift. We’ll take care of the rest!

If I make a gift to either the Owl Club or the Rice Business Fund between May 15 and June 30, will it count towards the “Your Voice, One Rice” Giving Challenge?

Yes! If you make a gift to either the Owl Club or the Rice Business Fund between May 15 and June 30, your gift will be counted towards those respective matching challenges AND the 6,000 donor goal of the “Your Voice, One Rice” Giving Challenge!

I’m a member of the Class of 2018. Will my donation during the “Your Voice, One Rice” Giving Challenge count toward my class’s Senior Gift?

Absolutely! If you make a gift between May 15 and June 30, it will also count toward your class’s Senior Gift! As a member of the Class of 2018, your gift already counts toward Rice’s alumni participation rate. Your gift helps us increase this rate, which significantly factors in Rice’s national rankings in U.S. News and World Report (and other important publications).

I have already made a gift this fiscal year (July 1, 2017–June 30, 2018). If I make an additional gift between May 15 and June 30, will it count toward the challenge?

Thank you so much for your donation this year, and we are thrilled that you want to be part of this important giving challenge. Any gift made between May 15 and June 30 (no matter if it’s your first, third or tenth gift this fiscal year) will count toward the 6,000 donor goal of the “Your Voice, One Rice” Giving Challenge.
