Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies

Graduate Students & Postdoctoral Scholars

At Rice, one of America’s leading research universities, graduate education is challenging and exciting. Our top-ranked programs are known world-wide for their scholarship, and our faculty and students are some of the world's best and brightest. We create, innovate, discover and push the boundaries of what is possible. We inspire each other to be our best and work across traditional boundaries to increase our foundational knowledge of the world, and develop interdisciplinary, innovative solutions to the problems facing humanity.

Graduate students are an integral part of Rice’s research enterprise and scholastic community. The recruitment of enthusiastic, dedicated students propels research at Rice forward. Through our graduate programs, Rice has an opportunity to impact current research and train the next generation of researchers to answer questions we have not yet asked. In collaboration with our graduate programs, the Office of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies partners with students as they work toward their degree. The University supports them through their academic journey and early career. Our office is dedicated to student success, both in and outside the classroom, field, lab, library and archives. We work to support each graduate student, provide essential opportunities for community, and provide professional development opportunities for all of our graduate students. Whatever students choose to do with their degree, we want to give them all the resources they need to achieve their goals.

With your help, we will:

  • Recruit a world-class graduate student body by expanding fellowships, seed grants and research stipends.
  • Establish graduate communities that are as vibrant and enriching as those that we are known for among undergraduates.
  • Promoting diverse, equitable, and inclusive graduate programs.
