Be Transformative

At Rice, we believe that talent deserves opportunity. That means, first and foremost, removing the financial barriers that inhibit students’ growth and development. It means offering unique and varied experiences inside and outside the classroom that empower their success and well-being. And it means strategically growing our student body to ensure that more students can fully participate in a transformative learning experience.

Through Be Bold, we will make sure that every Rice student, regardless of their means, has access to the full range of learning opportunities that will enable them to achieve excellence and make an impact throughout their lives. This includes a historic commitment to financial aid, enhanced academic preparation for under-resourced students, a revitalized central quad, endowment support for coaches and merit scholarships, graduate student support, ample resources for teaching excellence, and funding for a range of experiences spanning study abroad, internships and research.

Invest in every Rice student. Give them every opportunity to engage in a transformative Rice experience. Watch them go from extraordinary potential to extraordinary impact.

With your support, we will...

Expand Financial Aid

Expand financial aid for low- and middle-income families through The Rice Investment.

Launched in the 2019-20 academic year, The Rice Investment empowers the most talented students to choose Rice based on their ability to excel, not their ability to pay. Endowed undergraduate scholarships are critical to meeting this need, enabling donors to establish a source of scholarship support for students in perpetuity and to solidify their personal connection to Rice. Learn how you can maximize your endowment gift through the Matching Gift Program through Dec. 31, 2025.

Ensure that high-potential, low-income and first-generation students achieve their academic and professional aspirations.

The Rice Emerging Scholars Program enables STEM students of exceptional talent and potential, who previously lacked access to economic and educational opportunities, to thrive in Rice’s rigorous academic environment. From pre-matriculation through graduation, RESP students are provided with personalized and comprehensive mentoring, research and internship experiences, professional development resources and more.

Ensure High Potential

Current use funding

Provide vital current-use funding that enables every Rice student to realize their greatest potential.

The Rice Fund is one of the university’s most powerful and consistent resources for sustaining the best aspects of the Rice student experience and the primary means for the broader Rice community to support the campaign. Current-use gifts to the Rice Fund provide flexibility to support the hallmarks of the Rice experience, while allowing the university to respond to emerging needs as they arise. It fuels generous financial aid, teaching resources, research technology and equipment, residential college life, and safety and wellness programs — in other words, the total Rice experience, end-to-end.

Support bold student-athletes who exhibit grit and determination in the classroom and on the field of competition.

As Rice prepares to join the American Athletic Conference (AAC) and embark on a new era of Rice Athletics, increased philanthropic support of our programs is critical to ensure our student-athletes and coaches are best positioned to compete for championships. Modernized facilities, investments in coaching endowments and scholarships, and increased support for the Owl Club Athletic Fund will give our 350+ student-athletes the competitive edge they need to succeed in any arena, academic or athletic.

Central Quad

Create a re-envisioned central quad and state-of-the-art student center that amplifies student access, opportunity and inclusion.

The Moody Center for Student Life and Opportunity, which will replace the existing Rice Memorial Center (RMC), will become the physical epicenter for student opportunity and success and a crucial element of students’ engagement with the broader Rice community, Houston and the world. The facility includes space for a wider range of mentoring and advising services, creative endeavors, dining options, student organizations and activities, lectures and performances, makerspaces and a newly envisioned Multicultural Center. Additional naming opportunities are available.

Expand resources for mental health services, teaching excellence, and engagement to enable student success.

A transformative undergraduate learning experience includes not only a challenging academic environment and curriculum, but also a robust set of support services and resources that enable the growth and development of every student, individually and collectively. Through the Dean of Undergraduates office, we will raise support for expanded mental health and wellness services, provide the pedagogical tools that enhance teaching and learning across schools, and establish an endowed fund to support under-resourced students’ desire to engage in a range of educational, experiential and career-building activities.
